INFORMED CARE ADDS MOTION MEDIA TECHNOLOGY'S CARESTATION™ VIDEOPHONE TO WEB-BASED DISEASE MANAGEMENT SERVICE

Interactive service will deploy 1000 videophones to help patients with chronic illnesses more effectively manage their conditions.

Wilmington, NC (November 5, 2001) - Motion Media Technology, a world leader in video telephony products for the healthcare, business, and mass markets, today announced that the company has partnered with Informed Care, Inc. to enhance the delivery of disease management services for patients suffering from chronic illnesses. According to the agreement, Informed Care will use the Motion Media Technology CareStation 125 videophone as an integral part of the ICARE™ Management System, helping patients suffering from diabetes, HIV/AIDS, or tuberculosis manage their conditions more effectively. Initially, Informed Care will deploy 1000 CareStation units to help qualified nurse case managers and their physicians keep in touch with patients.

"Disease management is only effective when a relationship has developed between the patient and the caregiver," said Michael Kerouac, President and CEO of Informed Care. "The relationship is highly dependent on the quality of interaction between participants. Motion Media Technology's CareStation is a great fit for disease management as the videophones provide high quality visual contact for patients and caregivers, and are easy to maintain. The CareStation allows us to increase the frequency of interactions, as well as the quality of those contacts, and at less expense than traditional home visiting programs."
Informed Care will educate patients on the benefits of telemedicine and CareStation technology through a series of special video programs that will be featured in over 4000 physician waiting rooms by the end of 2001.
"The CareStation is designed specifically for tele-homecare, integrating interactive audio and visual communication with real-time medical transmission…all over standard telephone lines," said John Strucke, Director of Business Development, Telehealth, at Motion Media Technology. "Chronic illnesses are responsible for nearly 70% of all healthcare costs. Informed Care's disease management services, delivered through our CareStation products, improve the quality of patient care and reduce costs while elevating patient and provider satisfaction."

Disease Management: As Easy as a Phone Call

Informed Care is a leading supplier of Internet-based chronic illness management systems. The ICARE Management System is based on the company's interactive Web software, a family of client/server telemedicine products that connect patients with their caregivers over the Internet. Services include consultations with nurses, Q&A with pharmacists, multimedia courseware, medication reminders (online and via beeper), and weight management. The system is driven by a secure database of patient medical records. Caregivers can review and annotate patient information electronically, and send images to remote locations for consultations.

The CareStation 125, the first videophone system designed specifically for remote healthcare, provides an added dimension to the ICARE patient/caregiver interaction, allowing patients and healthcare providers to communicate quickly and easily a variety of communication protocols, including standard phone lines. The CareStation includes a built-in video screen and integrated camera that supports high quality video at up to 30 frames per second. A nurse can visually assess the patient's mental and functional status, evaluate conditions such as wound status, and observe medication compliance.

In addition to high quality visual and audio communication, the CareStation can transmit and receive electronic readings from a wide variety of medical instruments that can be self-administered by the patient. A broad array of medical peripheral devices can plug into the videophone, including stethoscopes, blood pressure cuffs, and glucometers. The medical readings, video, and accompanying dialog can be saved as a complete electronic record of the patient visit.
